IFC—a member of the World Bank Group—is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. We work in more than 100 countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2023, IFC committed a record $43.7 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit www.ifc.org. The development of a vibrant private sector is central to promoting economic growth and creating opportunities for the poor. Sound and efficient markets can ensure that resources are allocated where they are most productive, assisting job creation and spurring economic growth. Country Advisory and Economics (CAE) is part of IFC's strategic approach to deliver on its capital increase commitments with expanded development impact on the ground through increased high-quality private sector investment opportunities and client support. CAE works proactively to contribute to creating market conditions for increased IFC and private sector investments overall within IFC client countries. Crucial to this process is CAE's work to reform markets and strengthen capacity to address key bottlenecks to private sector engagement and investment. CAE is one of the three pillars in IFC's revised approach to Advisory support: • Country Advisory and Economics help build IFC client countries' business environment and sector -level reforms to unlock a broad range of new private sector investment opportunities • Upstream focuses on developing investable projects and markets with country level engagements and globally applicable platforms • Firm-level Advisory supports new and portfolio clients by building capacity, expanding impact and managing risks for long-term success With a cadre of 130 staff across four regions, Country Advisory and Economics is delivering a portfolio of $300 million in technical assistance support that is closely coordinated with the World Bank and serves as a key delivery agent of IFC's Regional strategies. CAE currently operates with an active portfolio and pipeline across the Middle East, Turkey and Central Asia (MCT) region.
CAE introduced an advisory project to promote green buildings in Uzbekistan. The project builds on IFC's EDGE Green Building Program (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies), a highly successful initiative which includes work on the launch of the simple, affordable voluntary EDGE certification program (see www.edgebuildings.com). The project will partner with the Ministry of Construction (MoC) and other stakeholders from the public and the private sector in Uzbekistan to support policy and regulatory reforms to promote green buildings, provide capacity building and awareness raising on green building and EDGE certification, work with the academia to develop green building professional skills, and support increasing the certified green building stock in Uzbekistan. |
