The British Embassy in Tashkent is part of the UK's global diplomatic network. The Embassy's Commercial Section, part of the UK Government's Department of Business and Trade (DBT), is seeking to recruit a Trade Advisor who will work as a member of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team based in the Embassy.
This is an exciting time to be working in DBT. With its role to promote UK's business interests worldwide, the successful candidate will contribute to the UK's prosperity by working in an expanded DBT commercial team in the Embassy, contributing to the enhancement of the bilateral trade and investment relations between the UK and Uzbekistan.
Our new Trade Advisor will lead in the export promotion work of the Trade Team's priority sectors. This will involve liaising with UK companies and Uzbek stakeholders to identify and fulfil opportunities for UK exports. Establishing a wide-reaching network, understanding of the sector, and effective communication channels will be essential to increasing UK exports to the market. Organising of events to promote UK trade will form an integral part of the position's activity.
This is a high profile, outward facing role, which requires strong interpersonal skills in order to develop and maintain high-level relationships across business and Government stakeholders in Uzbekistan and the UK. The jobholder will also build and utilise a significant support network in Uzbekistan and the UK, across both governments and trade bodies, as well as international trade and development organisations.
Roles and responsibilities:
Export Promotion
• Leading export promotion of a priority sectors for the Embassy including the development of an UK export pipeline.
• Managing stakeholder engagement and development of a network within this sector, including UK businesses, potential customers in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Government, and HMG colleagues relevant to the sector.
• Supporting company engagement in Uzbekistan within this sector, including for example, the delivery of sector-specific trade missions to and from the UK, events, and marketing.
• Drafting of briefing materials for high-level visits, including ministers, relevant to this priority sector.
• Research of Embassy priority sectors to identify and execute potential export opportunities for UK Businesses. |

Professional requirements |
*Written and Oral fluency at C1* level in English, Uzbek and Russian (according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages* or IELTS score of 6.5 or above) with excellent communications skills;
*Prior experience of working with or within the private sector, government, diplomatic mission or international organization;
*Bachelor's degree (or higher) in economics, public administration, business, marketing, or related discipline
*Prior professional experience in in a commercial or trade related area;
*Ability to set and meet own priorities and work with limited supervision;
*Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, along with resourcefulness in solving problems;
*Good interpersonal and networking skills, including the ability to deal comfortably with high level officials and contacts. |

Extra motivation |
This is a full-time, permanent contract for 40 working hours gross per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Uzbekistan are subject to the terms and conditions of service according to local Uzbek employment law. All applicants interested in this job opportunity should have the legal right to live and work in Uzbekistan.

Working patterns: This is a full-time position however the British Embassy Tashkent supports flexible working and would be able to consider flexi-hours (eg early start and early finish each working day) or compressed hours (eg working 10 days in 9).
Learning & Development: The jobholder will receive a comprehensive induction from relevant Department for Business and Trade (DBT) teams, and the British Embassy, upon starting the role. DBT and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) offer an extensive range of learning opportunities, covering formal training courses, mentoring and work shadowing, and learning on the job, that will all be available to the job-holder. |
