Duties This position is intended to be located at Ministry of Agriculture

The Conservation Agriculture Expert will work closely with project stakeholders, including the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), FAO Rep. Office in Uzbekistan, project staff, and other international consultants. He/she will report to the Project National Coordinator and Project Steering Committee (PSC) and collaborate with them to ensure the successful implementation of project activities under Component 2. Additionally, the expert will undertake any other relevant activities necessary to achieve the objectives of the assignment and contribute to the overall success of the project.
The Project assistant/Junior wheat production specialist will be responsible for:
- Provide logistical support for project provide logistical support for project events;
- Providing technical expertise and guidance on conservation agricultural practices tailored to local agricultural landscapes.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement capacity building programs for farmers, extension workers, and other relevant actors on conservation agriculture techniques.
- Assist in submitting the OP quarterly, six-monthly technical and financial reports to FAO;
- Organizing and Coordinating travel arrangements for project staff and other international consultants;
- Facilitating the establishment or strengthening of producer organizations and Wheat Clusters to promote sustainable wheat production and diversification at the farm and landscape levels;
- Project baselines are established in accordance with approved indicators and assessment methodology;
- Prepare the reports on wheat production under conservation agriculture across all project demonstration sites;
- Assisting in evaluation of the potential benefits of the proposed technical options to project core GEF indicators: area of land restored; area of landscapes under improved practices; Greenhouse Gas Emissions Mitigated separately for irrigated and rainfed wheat landscapes in three target regions.
- Leading the demonstration of diversification approaches and improved management practices, such as no-till, crop rotation, double cropping, intercropping, and reduce environmental impacts.
- Contributing to the development of "sustainable wheat contract" models that consider economic, environmental, and social factors to promote inclusive and sustainable value chains.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to identify and develop locally appropriate and equitable agro-environmental incentive schemes to link smallholder outputs to local and regional markets.
- Providing training, capacity building, and technical assistance to ensure inclusive and gender-sensitive participation in conservation and sustainable agriculture initiatives.
- Monitoring and evaluating the impact of conservation practices and incentive schemes on agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic development.
- Contributing to knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned in conservation agriculture and sustainable value chain development within the project and beyond.

- Participation in field visits and workshops as required throughout the project implementation process, with support from FAO-UZ;
- Assisting in formulation of a strategy for the sustainability and scaling out of project impacts under Component 2, to achieve the large-scale transformational impact required by the FOLUR Impact Program
- Carrying out any other activities relevant to this assignment

Expected Outputs

1. Technical reports on conservation agriculture practices are delivered.
2. Capacity building programs for farmers and extension workers on conservation agriculture techniques are developed and implemented.
3. Producer organizations and Wheat Clusters are established or strengthened to promote sustainable wheat production and diversification.
4. Diversification approaches, such as crop rotation and intercropping, are demonstrated to maintain the diversity of production systems.
5. Improved management practices for productive croplands, including conservation agriculture and integrated pest management, are demonstrated to increase crop production.
6. A menu of "sustainable wheat contract" models responsive to the needs of different segments of the wheat value chain is introduced.
7. A cooperative platform for wheat value chain actors is developed, focusing on sustainable production, marketing, and sale.
8. Locally appropriate and equitable agro-environmental incentives are adopted to link smallholder outputs to local and potentially regional markets, leveraging wide stakeholder involvement.
