| Duties | Position holder will be located at Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and reports to the Ministry GCP/UZB/020/GFF/ Sustainable Forest and Rangelands Management in the Dryland Ecosystems of Uzbekistan Under the overall supervision of the Chief Technical Adviser and Head of PIU at Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan FFS dairy specialists will undertake the following: Under Output 2.2.1. Dairy value chain /dairy livestock production • Conducting trainings/workshops/FFS on sustainable intensification of milk production, focusing mostly on zero-grazing and limited grazing systems. The topics will include: feeding, feeds production, genetics, herd management, health management, housing etc. • Conducting master classes on storage and home processing of milk, with an emphasis on attracting women. • Provide households with small mechanization equipment such as milking machines, drinking water supply equipment, separators, feeds processing equipment etc. • Raising awareness of decision-makers on the development of family-based dairy farming in the district level by engaging in seminars, trainings and exchange of experience at the national and international level. • Assess the economic and environmental benefits (using LEAP guidelines) of stall-fed dairy farming and prepare recommendations for distribution as an alternative to pastoralism Dairy value chain / Cooperation of households • Organization of two cooperatives based on the association of households engaged in dairy farming. • Support the cooperatives with development of business plans; • Provide cooperatives with milk coolers, milk analyzers, AI equipment, vet equipment etc. • Launch and use of a workshop (aka community kitchen) for storage, processing, and packaging of dairy products within the cooperative. • Assist the cooperative with obtaining all operation permits, food safety certificates, etc. • Creating a mechanism for transporting milk and market dairy products through the cooperative. • Creation of a mechanism of joint purchase of feed and other means of production, veterinary and consulting services. • Develop a marketing system (including development of a village brand) and opportunities for joint sales of dairy products. Sustainable Forest and Rangelands Management in the Dryland Ecosystems of Uzbekistan (Bukhara region Jondor district, Navoi region Nurota district) Key performance indicators Expected Outputs: Work plan Contribution to the project progress reports and PIR on relevant activities Submission of technical reports on relevant activities specified in this ToR and project workplan Submission of the mid-term technical report on FFS activities Submission of the final technical report on FFS activities including all data, materials and manuals prepared within the assignment period. Required Completion Date: 1 month after contract assignment Every 6 months As per agreed annual project workplans 9 months after contract assignment 16 months after contract assignment |
