| Duties | *Provide individualized academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral support for the assigned student. *Support learning across the curriculum as directed by the Learning Support Teacher and/or Classroom Teacher. *Clarify instructions, encourage independence in learning engagements, and help the student work towards targets and outcomes. *Promote respect, self-esteem, and inclusion within the classroom and school community. *Moves around the classroom, enabling the student/s to be independent, instead of always sitting beside the student/s; *Supervise the student in varied settings (classroom, recess, field trips) to ensure a safe learning environment *Model and support appropriate social communication and peer interaction. *Collaboration with Teachers *Work under the direction of the preschool teachers. *Share observations and provide feedback to teachers on student progress. *Work closely with the classroom teachers and TAs to follow agreed strategies and interventions. *Monitoring and record keeping *Track and document the student's behavioral progress using CPoms when necessary. *Regularly communicate observations to classroom teachers and parent (verbally) *Attend meetings between Teacher, Parent and Pre School Student Assistant to discuss strengths, progress, strategies and to review the progress of the support. Professional Responsibilities: *Attend regular meetings to provide updates on the student's progress. *Follow TIS safeguarding and child protection procedures. *Model positive relationships and contribute to a caring and inclusive school ethos. *Student Specific Approaches *Support daily routines, including transitions, circle time, activities, and outdoor play. Use pre-agreed regulation strategies, such as: *Visual cues and calm corner routines *Redirection or sensory breaks *Positive reinforcement and immediate praise for desired behavior *Assist with classroom participation by clarifying teacher instructions in simple English or with gestures/pictures when necessary. *Ensure safety during classroom activities, outdoor play, and transitions. *Model and reinforce appropriate social behaviors (e.g., turn-taking, gentle touch, waiting, sharing). *Support emotional expression using calm voice, empathy, and minimal verbal overload. *Model and encourage appropriate communication of needs, feelings, and ideas. Using Kelso's choices. *Monitor physical boundaries to prevent impulsive actions (e.g., pushing, hitting, biting) while ensuring safety of all children. *Encourage Independence *Support and encourage independence by gradually reducing assistance when/where appropriate. *Avoid over-prompting; use the least intrusive level of support necessary. *Celebrate effort and progress to build confidence. |
