Caritas Switzerland (CACH) announces a vacancy for the position of accountant at its project office in Samarkand. Funding for this position (to April 2027) is provided by the Swiss Government under a mandated agreement for the project "Climate resilient integrated water resources management in the Zarafshan River Basin". The project is implemented by Caritas Switzerland (lead) in a consortium agreement with the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (Carec). The successful candidate will report to the Team Leader and to the Country Director for Uzbekistan on matters that are triggered by demarcation of authority and CACH policies. She/He will receive technical backstopping from CACH's finance team based in Dushanbe, as well as from CACH's head office in Lucerne, Switzerland. She/He will maintain a close working relationship with the Team Leader as well as other staff based on demarcation of authority.
Tasks for this position include: 1.Managing CACH's bank accounts together with the Country Director 2.Timely payment of staff salaries and benefits 3.Managing payments, advances and their settlements in accordance with organizational policy 4.Accurate bookkeeping including provision of required supporting documents into CACH's accounting system (Abacus), while maintaining 1C for effective and timely reporting to state and local authorities 5.Tracking timely and accurate bookkeeping entries for the project's consortium partner through CACH's online accounting system (SAPI) 6.Oversight of budget utilization, with regular and timely reporting to the team leader and other staff that are authorized to execute specific budget lines. 7.Timely reporting to the state authorities as required by law; ensuring compliance with the labour code (specifically tax and social service remittances) 8.Facilitate external audits with the Country Director 9.Manage HR/staff administration with the team leader, in accordance with the organization's internal regulations and state regulations 10.Support documentation and processes for procurement in line with organizational policies 11.Ensure that inventory and assets lists are maintained and regularly updated 12.Other tasks within the scope of competence |

Professional requirements |
•Minimum five years of professional experience in accounting, finance, and audit, preferably with an international organization or on projects funded by international/multilateral agencies •Proficiency with 1C or equivalent •Proficiency with MS Excel •Knowledge of bank-client systems within Uzbekistan •Excellent interpersonal communication skills, good knowledge of English, Uzbek and Russian |
