Duties |
Activities to be performed under the ToR 1. Enlist different crop rotations being used by the farmers at present and estimated area under each rotation in the Aral Sea Region. 2. For the rotations identified above, prepare crop cycles for different crop rotations (annual and perennial rotations). By crop cycle we mean when different crops in the rotations are planted and harvested. 3. List the potential leguminous crops which can be included in the current rotations without changing the rotations. Estimate cost and benefits (economic, social, environmental) from including different leguminous crops in the rotations. Also consider environmental suitability for cultivation, seed production, local usage, local market availability and export potential of different legumes that might fit into the prevalent rotation. 4. List potential green manuring crops that can be included in the rotation without disturbing the rotation. Green manuring crops are grown only for vegetative biomass and plowed into the soil in succulent stage. Estimate economic cost and benefits (economic, social, environmental) from including different green manuring crops in the rotations. 5. Establish value chain with special emphasis on seed availability and production, and market outlets (local and export) for different leguminous crops. 6. Prepare a report and a report-derived journal article for publication. |
