The Indian Cultural Centre in Uzbekistan was established in 1995 and renamed as the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture (LBSCIC) in March 2005. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture organizes major cultural programmes in Tashkent during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations of India. As part of our outreach activities, the Centre regularly organizes visits of its Kathak Dance and Yoga Students to different provinces (viloyats) to organize joint cultural programmes. The Centre also organizes regular Dance (Kathak) Yoga and Tabla classes in its premises. We also organize more than forty weekly programmes in a year in our premises. The programmes include dance & music concerts, art exhibitions, public lectures, seminars, etc. The Centre also organizes various competitions during the year to familiarize the young people with India. We have quiz competitions on Indian subjects, singing of Indian songs, recitation of Hindi poetry, and writing essays in English and Hindi on Indian themes. The Centre also screens films in Hindi and English. To promote the Hindi language, the Centre organizes regular Hindi classes, symposia, competitions, and also presents Hindi books to institutions. We also send 2 students each year for training in Hindi to the Central Institute of Hindi, Agra. All slots available under the Government of India Scholarship Schemes administered by the ICCR are filled up during the year.
The Centre maintains a well-equipped Library with books on India in English, Hindi, Russian and Uzbek languages and a Reading Room with all major Indian newspapers and magazines. We also interact with the Council of Friendship Societies of Uzbekistan, which actively develops interaction between Uzbek people. To reach out to more Uzbek young people, ICCR has established 'India Chair' in the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent. |
